A week out from the start of Roosevelt's preseason practice, Roughriders coach Christian Swain took his team to a Seattle Seahawks practice Monday and got more than they had hoped from the experience.
Swain said the Roughriders attended Monday's practice, and at the end, hoped to finish up with a team picture with Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Instead, Seattle defensive end Bruce Irvin came over, and according to Swain, asked if the team "wanted to hang out."
Well, duh.
Irvin took the Roughrider players and coaches on a tour of the Seahawks facility. They were able to meet many of the team's stars, including quarterback Russell Wilson and cornerback Richard Sherman. In the locker room, the Roughriders took several team pictures with various Seahawk players.
Afterward, Carroll talked to the Roughriders about football and life, then had them huddle and led a "1, 2, 3, Riders!"
"I was absolutely blown away at the way they treated our kids," Swain said. "Bruce Irvin was amazing and our kids really loved him. ... The Seahawks are a class organization from top of bottom and this was an unbelievable experience the kids will never forget."
