Starting from scratch!

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Roosevelt High softball team is having one of the best seasons in school history. The team leads the Portland Interscholastic League and is ranked 14th in the state in the 6A class.

This is the fifth season for head coach Kelsey Green. When she started the team didn't have uniforms, limited equipment and only a few players.

"We pretty much started from scratch" Green said before a game against PIL rival Franklin.

Green is a Roosevelt graduate who used her softball skill to help her get to college. She earned a master's degree in counseling and returned to the school as a guidance counselor and coach.

Senior catcher Megan Verbout calls Green "a great coach who has taught us about softball and life."

Green says the student athletes just need to be challenged then they can accomplish amazing things.
