History
The Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) has
a rich history of competition dating all the way back to 1900, or
possibly even prior to that.
Although it more than likely was not known as the PIL at the time,
the first football score on record was that of Portland High School
beating Pacific University, 11-0, in 1900. Portland High School
(1900-06) evolved into West Side High School (1907-08) which then
became the present Lincoln High School.
Many,
many outstanding athletes, coaches and athletic administrators have
plied the halls of the various PIL high schools
that have existed since that time.
With all of this in mind, the PIL
Hall of Fame was established in 1981 in an effort to honor these
outstanding people.
